I am an advocate for being proactive in helping your horse have healthy hooves! This includes preventative hoof radiographs (aka. X-Rays). Radiographs can tell us critical information about the health and current state of your horse's hoof.

"Hoof radiographs are capturing the unseen and showing us the unknown…..and the unknown is a scary place when attempting to keeping a horse sound.” - Christian McCormick, Denali Farrier Pros, Therapeutic Farriery and Rehabilitation

I 100% agree! While we can see A LOT on the outside of the hoof, we cannot see everything. Regular preventative hoof radiographs can give us confidence that we are doing everything we can do to help our horses stay sound, long term.

It is critical that hoof/podiatry radiographs are taken in a specific manner to ensure your hoof care professional can see everything they need to see. This is often overlooked because many veterinarians are accustomed to taking diagnostic radiographs. Radiographs taken for hoof care are to be addressed in a specific manner.

I have created this easy Hoof Radiograph Checklist for you to review and utilize when working with your veterinarian.
