Things to consider when trying to determine the root cause of dysfunction in your horse.
What do you mean by root cause? By root cause, I am referring to what the true cause of the dysfunction is. Sometimes, it can be multiple things that create a complicated pattern in your horse which must be unwound layer by layer. But where do you start? To truly evaluate all systems of your horse, enlist the help of professionals to help you look at your horse as a WHOLE. This may include an osteopath, craniosacral therapist, veterinarian, hoof care professional, behavioral specialist, and nutritionist. These professionals are what I call your wellness team. When all the factors are considered, what seems to be the underlying cause of dysfunction/dis-ease? Once that is determined, you can enlist the help of your wellness team to develop a plan to achieving true healing and balance.
I feel it’s important to note that sometimes you as an owner, might have to keep digging. If your wellness team can’t find a root cause, enlist the help of some other opinions. There is always a root cause…it just may take us time to find it. Listen to your horse. Thinking back over your history together can help you uncover some important information.
As you continue down the path of healing, sometimes you will have good days, and sometimes you will have bad days. It’s part of the process. We will talk about that in another article.
Stay the course and trust the plan. Your horse will thank you.
