supporting the nervous system: Equine craniosacral

Craniosacral Therapy is a light touch healing modality that utilizes energy to work WITH the central nervous system in the body to help balance be achieved. There are hundreds of nerves communicating throughout the body to perform certain innate functions. If the flow becomes disrupted, a myriad of issues can arise.

whole body balancing: body evaluation & tissue unwinding

It is ALL connected… Whole Body Balancing includes evaluation and rebalancing of all systems in the horse's body including skeletal, muscular, vascular, nerves, and fascia. Proper biomechanics, hoof balance, saddle fit, and tooth balance are also evaluated.

connecting to heal: finding the stillness within

To truly achieve deep healing, a connection must be made in order to obtain permission to facilitate the exact healing a body needs. By allowing God to work through us, we partner with the body to help it achieve deep healing and the balance it inherently wants to achieve.

WHAT IS CRANIOSACRAL?

Craniosacral Therapy is a light touch healing modality that utilizes energy to work WITH the central nervous system in the body to help balance be achieved. The name describes the spinal cord connection at that base of the cranium (skull) and the sacrum. Along the spinal cord are hundreds of nerves communicating throughout the body to perform certain innate functions. The movement of the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) communicating along the spinal cord is called the Cranial Rhythm or Wave. It can be pictured as flowing back and forth from the cranium to the sacrum in a closed hydraulic pump like system. If the flow becomes disrupted, a myriad of issues can arise because of so many systems in the body being dependent upon the proper communication along the spinal cord.
Our bodies are not static. As you are sitting there, or your horse is standing there, literally thousands of things are happening inside the body. As the cranial rhythm/wave is moving along your spinal cord, each organ, and in turn system, is doing a specific dance that is unique to your own body. As the CSF is pumping back and forth, fascia all throughout the body is moving, as are the cranial bones in your head. What?! Yes, the bones in your head move as the CSF is pumping in your body (there are documented scientific studies proving this). Craniosacral can be utilized to rebalance and mobilize the bones in the head.
So how does the cranial rhythm become disrupted and cause issues in the body? There are so many ways. The most common causes I see in horses are from direct trauma (pulling back when tied, fall, kick, being BORN, having their teeth floated, etc.), experiencing a traumatic event (emotions are stored in the fascia), performing with imbalanced hooves or poor fitting tack, or being exposed to an environmental toxin (feed, chemicals on the pasture, or vaccines). The disruption can manifest anywhere in the body, but there is almost always evidence in the cranial bones! No surprise since that’s an insertion point for the entire communication system. If the disruption causes a shift in the cranial bones, a horse may experience a headache or experience nerve impingement (trigeminal or vagus nerves).

"By listening, we can learn so much. Our horses are constantly trying to help us and themselves. Allow me to help you & your horse along the path towards wellness & wholeness. "

what are some signs your horse needs help?

some symptoms that your horse may have a disruption in the cranial rhythm

  • Abnormal behavior such as reactiveness/spookiness or aggression, this is sometimes expressed as depression if the horse is in more of a shutdown state
  • Inability or a dislike of being touched or groomed
  • Unable to perform to previous levels, trouble maintaining collection and correct body alignment
  • Bucking or rearing
  • Head shaking or guarding of areas on the head or poll
  • Physical asymmetries in the cranial bones or a misalignment of the teeth
  • Reports of TMJ issues or inflammation
  • Metabolic or immune dysfunction

Be open to trying something new. Go deeper and help your horse’s body find true balance and healing.
